Towards an Intelligent and Green approach in VET Design

Jan. 2022 – Jan. 2024 | Erasmus+ | KA2 | Strategic Partnership | Project n. 2021-1-DE02-KA220-VET-000033003

Background:

The fashion industry is notoriously polluting: the different stages of the supply chain (production, distribution, use and disposal) are harmful due to waste generation, irresponsible consumption of resources and use of harmful substances. Of these, the design phase of a product is one of the most impactful on ‘environmental impact, amounting to more than 80 percent of the entire product-related environmental footprint. This scenario, already a concern in itself, has been further exacerbated by the growth of the Fast Fashion model in Europe. To address this problem, today several fashion brands are using digital technologies that have enabled the spread of many applications of AI in this sector. Trend detection, machine-assisted design, customer experience, and smart clothing are just some of the areas where the application of AI is most widespread.

Aims:

The project aims to integrate artificial intelligence into the educational curricula of vocational and high schools to provide teachers with innovative teaching tools so that they can create additional employment opportunities in the professions related to the entire fashion industry production chain.

Objectives:

  • Provide students with knowledge, skills, and practical abilities on how AI can be applied to guide the fashion industry toward a more sustainable horizon by optimizing production models and making them less wasteful
  • To create an AI tool that can provide assistance during the design phase. Therefore, the AI tool will support students in the decision-making process, equipping them with knowledge about the most sustainable alternatives to consider when designing new items in the fashion industry
  • Raise awareness among SMEs and vocational training institutions about the importance of CS subject matter
i

Results:

  • Collection and selection of good sustainability practices in the fashion industry
  • Identifying the challenges and benefits of using AI chatbots in the fashion industry
